Elefante
|
Since its inception, Elefante has been one of the most popular imported Spanish reds in Australia. It’s the combination of the vibrant label, the distinctive bull log and the charmingly accessible Tempranillo in the bottle that makes it such a sure-fire hit. These are modern Spanish wines that are bristling with character, made by the very talented Javier Mura.

Elefante El Valiente Tempranillo (6pk)
More about Elefante Find a stockist Region: Manchuela (Castilla La Mancha) Manchuela: The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain’s vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east add a degree of elegance to the wines. Winemaking: Totally de-stemmed with a short cold soak before a long, cool fermentation with daily pump - overs to achieve optimum fruit and colour. The core of the blend was aged in stainless steel before three months maturation in seasoned French and American oak. A component of up to ten percent of de-classified Rioja (due to volume constrainers not quality) is added to the blend three months before bottling. Tasting Note: The nose is expressive and fruit-driven with ripe berry aromas, darker briary notes and hints of spicy oak. The palate is fresh and spicy with seductive red berry and varietal cherry cola flavours, fine tannins and classy oak leading to very long finish.

Elefante Tempranillo Shiraz (12pk)
More about Elefante Find a stockist Region: Castilla La Mancha Castilla La Mancha: The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain’s vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east add a degree of elegance to the wines. Winemaking: Ripe and intensely flavoured Tempranillo was given a long and cool maceration in vats before maturation in stainless steel. Shiraz added mid palate intensity and overall fruit weight. Finally, 10% of the blend was Tempranillo sourced from the San Vincente region of Rioja and matured in aged oak barrels for complexity and structure. Tasting Note: Deep red in colour with a ripe, expressive nose of berries, plums and smoked spice. The palate is rich and opulently fruited, packed with dark berried Shiraz fruit matched by structured, savoury Tempranillo and framed by silky tannins. Impressively complex and well balanced, this wine will gain character and complexity in the cellar for up to five years. Perfect with chargrilled chorizo and olives.
