Summary:

: The Elephant in the Room wines are proudly large in scale and expansive in flavour. Created to deliver full bodied and mouth-filling wines, Elephant in the Room gives consumers what they want- quality, flavour and something to talk about. Each wine is sourced from slow-ripening cool climate vineyards and partially matured in French Oak before final blending and bottling by Corey Ryan.

Winemaking: Sourced from a selection of mature, dry-grown vineyards in Langhorne Creek managed by Jim Zerella. The fruit is partially hand-harvested before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. A small component of the blend is cool distilled whilst another undergoes ultra-membrane filtration. With very gentle handling, these components are masterfully blending back into the original parcel of wine to arrive at a well-integrated, lighter finished ABV. Followed by six months maturation in a combination of second-use oak and stainless steel before bottling.

Vintage 2021: If 2020 was all about the heat, then 2021 will be remembered as the wet season. In many parts of Australia, it was unseasonably wet in Winter but not at critical times to do damage nor impact the resultant ripeness of the grapes. A cool and dry summer meant even ripening was achieved between dry and rainy spells and the ensuring fruit quality was excellent and for once yields were up making for a bumper harvest in 2021.

Tasting Note: Deep purple colour with aromatic notes of red berry and blackcurrants framed by violet overtones and subtle cedarwood spice. The palate is dense and plush with flavours of blood plum, chocolate, blueberry and spice with a supple, slippery mouthfeel framed by subtle oak toast and fine tannins. A generous wine, packed full of flavour that belies it’s moderate weight and finished alcohol, perfect with any red meat dishes.
