Plus & Minus Pinot Noir 2020
22nd October 2021
"From Fourth Wave Wine and winemaker Corey Ryan, the Plus & Minus wines are “hand-made without the use of any artificial sweeteners, but the “addition of grape skin extract (GSE) during the winemaking process.” The wines are de-alcoholised to as close to zero as possible.
Medium garnet with a ruby heart. Actually smells like Pinot Noir: there’s forest floor, steeped cherry, crushed thyme, a little leather, grated cooking chocolate, blood orange citrus rind and smoke. Medium weight, the palate is a touch wan on the fruit spectrum, but there’s intense cherry and lingering herbs with some grippy tannins. As seems to be the hallmark for all of these wines, the flavour drops away fairly quickly, but this is still one of the best in the range.
Note: I tasted this in a Riedel Magnum (which is my standard tasting glass for all wines) but then tried the wine in a Riedel New World Pinot Noir glass and the wine shone and seemed even more varietal and layered."
