Woods Crampton Pedro 2015
10th March 2017
"Inspired by the lunchtime wines found in bistros in the Rhone Valley. 45% Grenache, 30% Shiraz and 25% Mataro from the Barossa Valley, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented with 20% hole bunches to 13.5% alc., and bottled without oak contact. Dark, deep, near impenetrable, black-hued purple-red colour.
The nose is softly full with harmoniously entwined aromas of ripe blackberry and dark raspberry fruit with subtle savoury dried herb, pepper and eucalypt nuances and jam and confectionary elements. Medium-bodied, plush, juicy and up-front fruit flavours of black fruits, raspberries and jam feature on the palate and are underlined by grainy tannin extraction. The acidity is soft and the wine accessible, the sweet fruit carried with good energy, flowing to a dry, light, fine-textured finish. This is an up-front, juicy, black berry and raspberry jam fruited GSM with grainy tannins and good energy. Serve with pasta, pizza and tapas over the next 3+ years."
