Woods Crampton Old John Shiraz Bonvedro 2015

10th March 2017
It’s good Barossa Shiraz with a little something extra for the weekend... 94 Points

"Old John (not to be confused with Old Gregg) comes from three of their oldest vineyard sources (60, 55 and 75 years old), includes 20% whole bunch and 12% Bonvedro, and has a total production of 500 cases. Also, I like that the front label says 13.5% alcohol, and the back label 14%. I’m choosing 13.5% today, though tomorrow I may prefer a right boozy do.

It’s good Barossa Shiraz with a little something extra for the weekend. Dark fruit, lavender, liquorice, spice and rosemary. Medium bodied, supple and almost juicy, but a bit brooding too, layered with spice and perfumed with sweet herbs. Tannin is well tuned and sits neatly inside the wine with a graphite feel, and the finish is long and shapely with something of a chicory aftertaste. It’s complex, interesting, and insanely good value."
