Woods Crampton Michael John Shiraz 2016

26th February 2019
A monster of a red... 94 Points

"Heavy bottle, wax sealed, cork sealed. Old vine (planted 1894), single vineyard, Barossa Valley shiraz. French oak, 50% new. 15% alcohol.
It’s a monster of a red though it’s not thick or heavy; it just feels big, warm and imposing. It’s blasted with tannin, smoky oak, florals, blueberry jam and red licorice. Its alcohol does show, as does the sheer ripe-sweetness of its fruit. It tastes like a $100+ bottle of Barossa shiraz in style as much as in quality. That blast of tannin: it comes howling through the wine like sheets of rain. It will live a long time."
