Maretti Langhe Rosso 2017

3rd February 2020
Freshness and energy... 91 Points

"A reliable performer, with packaging that’s second to none when it comes to claiming shelf space, or looking sophisticated on the table. I was told that at one stage, this was the best selling Italian red in the county. Perhaps that’s still the case? I don’t know such things generally, even given the lofty view from the top of my ivory tower.

Rich, liquorice and suede, dark cherry and dried rose perfume, some spice. It’s fleshy and savoury, invariably a little rustic to taste, but in a good way for a wine that’s made to be enjoyed with gusto as a youngster. It has freshness and energy too, given its scale, and finishes dry and savoury. It delivers."
