Summary: The oldest cellars in Rioja, Condes de los Andes has been painstakingly restored by the Murua family. In addition to kilometres of tunnels and over one hundred thousand bottles under cellar, Condes de los Andes has a purpose built boutique winery dedicated to small batch hand crafted wines.
Winemaking: Sourced from some of the finest vineyards bordering Haro of Rioja in the Alta sub-zone. Many of the great estates border the vineyards all realising the benefit of slightly higher elevation to the resultant fruit purity and quality. Harvested by hand over many through days from mid-September to early October. Cool fermented over 21 days in tank before being transferred to 50% new and the remainder as second use French oak barriques for 14 months maturation. Post bottling this wine then spent a further 12 months in bottle, cellared in the underground and very cool tunnels of the winery, prior to release.
Vintage: 2015 was a hot and dry vintage across Spain, although the higher altitudes, cooler climate and well established vineyards saw Rioja fair the best of all Spanish regions. Light rain and cooler weather in Autumn revitalised the vines before a trouble free harvest delivering outstanding, intensely flavoured fruit.

Love the power of this. It is these three things at once: tight, rich and restrained. It tastes of leather, blackberry, iodine and toasty, malty, creamy oak. It doesn’t sound restrained, and it is indeed full-bodied, but just when you think it’s going to turn it up to 11 it turns structural and long. It’s a red for winter and it is most impressive.
