Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris
Summary: Drake wine is a collaboration between a motley crew of winemakers and sommeliers aimed at creating “perfect restaurant and food pairing wine balancing generosity and interest”. Ultimately these are
thought-provoking wines of individual character and expression.
Vineyard: Sourced from the upper blocks of an established vineyard in the heart of King Valley. A more gentle sloping site with excellent drainage and extended sunshine hours.
Winemaking: Hand-picked in the morning before the warmth of the day, hand-sorted prior to whole bunch pressing and fermentation in stainless steel. Some time on lees in tank has softened the wines edges and helped create a wonderfully bright, aromatic wine with full flavours yet subtlety and texture.
2017 Vintage: The Alpine Valleys and King Valley had ample spring rainfall and benign weather during flowering, creating above-average yields and the latest start to vintage for many years. Acid retention was excellent and flavour development was ahead of baumes. Outstanding wines were produced from
chardonnay, friulano, tempranillo, shiraz, sangiovese, prosecco and pinot grigio. James Halliday.
Tasting Note: pale, translucent yellow with green hue. This is a fragrant Pinot Grigio of white flowers lemon citrus, crisp nashi pear and subtle brown spices. The palate has weight and richness but is so light, refined and refreshing. A complex wine with serious drinkability and is nuanced enough to partner wonderfully with many summery cuisines.
