Summary: A premium organic Sangiovese from one of Australia’s most lauded and loved regions – McLaren Vale. Winemaker Corey Ryan has made an organic Sangiovese from an esteemed vineyard in the Vale paying homage to inspiration of the best in Chiani with an antipodean spin on it. Hard to find premium organic Sangiovese unless from italy but this is exceptional.

 

Vineyards: Sourced from 15 year old vineyards in the McLaren Vale from vineyards that see no herbicides or pesticides - the result is pure tasting fruit that sees just a small amount of irrigation.
 
Winemaking: Sourced from low yielding organic Sangiovese vines in McLaren Vale. Picked then fermented in small open fermenters with some hand plunging to help extract subtle tannins. After fermentation, it was consigned to barrel for 6 months in 20% new French oak and the rest in older large format barrels. Quality fruit handled well like this will ensure comfortable cellaring for 5-10 years.
 
Vintage 2021: After a forgetable 2020 winemakers in McLaren Vale were buoyed by what can only be
described as a dream vintage. The great season was due to a wet winter, allowing the vines to grow a good canopy followed by a coll dry summer whic ensured even ripening. The results saw not just great quality fruit but yields were up too. A great vintage for the Vale.

 

Tasting Note: A great rendition of Australians Sangiovese – a seductive of red and dark fruits with savoury notes of dried herbs. Delicious Sangiovese palate in full flight with layers off dark fruit concentration, great weight and texture a hint of complexing oak and a long, robust finish. Pair it with a rabbit ragu with pappardelle.
