Grape Variety: Pinot Gris
Winemaker: Nicholas Crampton & Joel Pizzini
Alcohol: 12.5%
Summary: The wine regions of the great state of Victoria are some of Australia’s most picturesque and historical. Today we can expect to see exciting wines and evocative wine styles as common fare. Hare & Tortoise represents the steady pursuit of fine, individual, regional wines of great drinkability & interest through patience, knowledge and a hands-off approach to winemaking.
Winemaking: Hand-picked in the morning before the warmth of the day, hand-sorted prior to whole bunch pressing and fermentation in stainless steel. Some time on lees in tank has softened the wines edges and helped create a wonderfully bright, aromatic wine with full flavours yet subtlety and texture.
2023 Vintage: King Valley had a very late start to the vintage. Cool weather and rain were persistent running up to Christmas before January and February warmth were sufficient throughout the ripening period to ensure full ripeness and flavours were achieved. Yields were certainly down but we should see some beautiful wines made with an extra level of finesse to them.
Tasting Note: Pale in colour with yellow hints. Varietal nose of freshly cut pear, lemons, and subtle spice lead to a mouth-filling burst of fruit flavour. Pear, green apple, and white flowers on the palate are underpinned by refreshing acidity. A nicely textural wine to have on its own but will partner well with fresh salads, seafood and white meat.
