Il Villaggio Rosé (6pk)

Summary: On the far north-western tip of Sicily and sitting above the ancient city of Erice, are the beautiful vineyards striving to produce wines of expression and typicity. Older, low yielding vines that are farmed organically and painstakingly hand-harvested, here are an expression of love for an ancient way of life in an ancient land.
Winemaking: Whole bunch pressed with a short maceration on skins to ensure colour, flavour and structure. Fermented cool, enabling complexing characters to develop and extract. Then transferred to stainless steel for maturation. A short period on lees has built subtle texture and softness into the wine whilst maintaining Nero’s classic freshness.
2016 Vintage: A warm and dry winter was followed by a moderate growing period albeit without the optimal desired level of rain preceding this time of year. Northern Sicily was less affected by drought thankfully compared to the sheer warmth of the South. Lower yields and some stress developed concentrated berries of great flavour and with diligent vineyard work the acidity’s of the best vineyards still shone through. This is considered a very good vintage for this part of the Island.
Tasting Note: This is a food-lovers wine and is instantly impactful with lifted cherry, raspberry, leather and brown spices. The palate is soft yet flavoursome and immediately exotic. Rich in red fruit flavours and laden with savoury spice notes with brisk acidity that drives a very long salivating finish. This wine is rich enough for almost any dish yet with the softness and complexity to partner everyday starters including antipasto and cheeses.
