Summary: The soul of Albarino lies in the heart of the Salnés, sub-area of Rías Baixas with in Galicia, situated in the North West of Spain. The climate is hot but with close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean enabling a crucial cooling influence. Pazo Cilleiro is located in the municipality of Meis, lying among a network of soft undulating hills and valleys on the doorstep to the beautiful Monastery of Armenteira, of Galician and Roman history. Highlighting the long association of this beautiful area with the culture of grape growing and wine making.
Winemaking: The grapes for this 2020 Albarino come from selected small vineyards around the winery. The very high trellis system ensured the vines were carefully hand-picked, then destemmed before spending two weeks in stainless steel tanks to complete fermentation. The wine then spends a further 5 months in tank to build complexity whilst maintaining pure fruit flavours and freshness.
Vintage: 2021 was a season with the trademark humidity that the region expects as well as consistent heat. Albarino fruit is looking fresh and bright albeit with slightly higher acidity. The seasonproduced lower yields but the wines look consistently good.
Tasting Note: All the trademark Albarino chaacters on display here, enticingly golden in colour, the palate displays a rich medley of peach, melon and lifted citrus. This is a mouth-filling wine driven long by bacing acidiy delivering a super fresh finish and a hint of regional salinity. This will match well with fresh chargrilled calamari marinated in chilli and garlic.
