Summary: The soul of Albarino lies in the heart of the Salnés, sub-area of Rías Baixas with in Galicia, situated in the North West of Spain. The climate is hot but with close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean enabling a crucial cooling influence. Pazo Cilleiro is located in the municipality of Meis, lying among a network of soft undulating hills and valleys on the doorstep to the beautiful Monastery of Armenteira, of Galician and Roman history. Highlighting the long association of this beautiful area with the culture of grape growing and wine making.
Winemaking: The grapes for this 2018 Albarino come from selected small vineyards around the winery. The very high trellis system ensured the vines were carefully hand-picked, then destemmed before spending two weeks in stainless steel tanks to complete fermentation. The wine then spends a further 5 months in tank to build complexity whilst maintaining pure fruit flavours and freshness.
Vintage: 2018 was a season with the traditional humidity we expect, but also some rain and the odd heat spike. Generally the Albarino is looking fresh and bright albeit with slightly lower acidity and also slightly lower alcohols. The season produced lower yields but the wines look great and are certainly for early consumption rather than ageing.
Tasting Note: This is a full-flavoured yet fresh Albarino. The vintage produced highly aromatic and concentrated fruit that shows beautifully through the wine. The palate displays a rich medley of lifted lemon citrus, white stone fruit and white flowers. This is a mouth-filling wine driven long by the clip of bracing acidity delivering a super fresh finish. This will match wonderfully with fresh or barbecued seafood, garden salads and almost anything else.
